Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

Position Summary: The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) provides critical support to the surgical team by assisting the surgeon during surgical procedures. This role focuses on ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes while adhering to established hospital policies and procedures.

Essential Job Duties:

• Prepare and organize sterile supplies, instruments, equipment, and drapes for surgical procedures.
• Assist in positioning the patient safely for surgeries.
• Provide visualization and utilize techniques to achieve hemostasis.
• Support appropriate visualization of the operative site during procedures.
• Assist in the closure of body planes using effective techniques.
• Apply appropriate wound dressings post-surgery.
• Assist in inserting and securing drainage systems to tissue.
• Utilize surgical equipment and supplies, including pneumatic tourniquets, electrocautery, and endoscopy equipment safely.
• Perform additional duties as requested by the surgical team.

Required Qualifications:

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wisconsin.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant (RNFA) program or a recognized first-assisting educational program.
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• 1+ years of related operating room or surgical experience preferred.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail are required.
