Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse First Assistant assists the surgeon with exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other technical tasks during surgery, ensuring safety and optimal patient outcomes under the surgeon’s supervision and in accordance with hospital policies.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Prepare and organize sterile supplies, instruments, equipment, and drapes for surgical procedures.
• Position the patient safely for surgical procedures.
• Provide visualization and utilize appropriate techniques to assist with hemostasis.
• Ensure appropriate visualization of the operative site.
• Assist with closure of body planes using appropriate techniques.
• Apply appropriate wound dressings.
• Insert and secure drainage systems to tissue as needed.
• Utilize surgical equipment and supplies safely, including pneumatic tourniquets, electrocautery, and endoscopy equipment.
• Perform other duties as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Wisconsin.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant (RNFA) program or other recognized first-assisting education program.
• BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
• 1+ years of related operating room/surgical experience preferred.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.

SHIFT INFORMATION

Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM. Call one weekend out of the month and seven additional nights of call during the month. Holiday coverage is required.
