Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)
Position Overview
The Registered Nurse First Assistant is a licensed professional who provides direct patient care as part of the perioperative team, acting as a first assistant to the surgeon. This role involves practicing an expanded scope of perioperative nursing while utilizing acquired knowledge, skills, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon through organized instruction and supervised practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Function as the first assistant to the surgeon in the Operating Room and Labor and Delivery Suite.
- Render direct patient care within the perioperative role.
- Assist the surgeon during surgical procedures under supervision.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant nursing role.
- Current licensure with the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- Current BLS/BCLS certification.
- Current ACLS recognition.
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
Shift Information
Shifts are available as 8- or 10-hour days starting at 0630. Weekend coverage is required on an alternating basis.
Credentialing
The position requires credentialing through the medical staff office, with a processing time of approximately 6-8 weeks.
Additional Requirements
Holiday coverage may be required.
