Job Description

Performs diagnostic vascular and cardiac ultrasound exams/procedures following professional, technical standards and hospital specific protocols to produce sonographic images and measurements that assist in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and vascular disorders. Performs exams/procedures on ambulatory as well as acute care patients of all stages of life from neonate to the geriatric population. Provides a healing patient care environment while promoting excellence in customer service.

Proven ability to demonstrate and maintain all skills to provide direct patient care within the individual’s scope of practice, as defined by professional guidelines in diagnostic medical sonography, including but not limited to coordinating and presenting information in QA and PI meetings, completing departmental and hospital competencies, maintaining credential and CME credits required by ARDMS and RDMS, IAC-Vascular/ Echo, timely CPR renewal, TB testing and departmental cross training, Etc.
Performs all vascular and Cardiac ultrasound exams/procedures with service excellence according to departmental protocols including patient identification, test explanation, laterality check if applicable, required images/measurements and appropriate reporting procedures.
Explains the examination and associated procedures to the patient and responds appropriately to patient questions and concerns.
Prepares all required test data, paperwork and/or electronic worksheet with accurate patient information, correct date/time and sonographer identification.
Verify patient identification with at least two (2) patient identifiers (full name and date of birth) prior to starting exam
Place all studies for interpretation within sixty minutes of test completion.
Provide precise, clear, and concise documentation necessary for continuity of care, accuracy of care, and quality assurance.
Review and reconcile completed exams to ensure all studies performed have resulted, report any delay to leadership.
Verify that all tests have either an e-signature or the correct written order.
Enter and edit orders for correct study, date of service and appropriate indication.
Review departmental volume each morning with other laboratory staff to execute the most efficient plan for patient throughput.
Maintain timely delivery of care as priority according to departmental policy but exhibit flexibility to accommodate service needs of fellow sonographers, patients, families, other departments and physicians.
Act as a mentor to all sonographers with less technical, clinical and operational experience.
Actively participate in training students, staff and other sonographers.
Utilize effective and appropriate communication methods and skills to promote interdepartmental relationships and service, to report problems and problem resolution regarding patients, team members and visitors, and to respond in clinical emergencies.
Demonstrate interpersonal skills and competencies for the neonate, toddler, preschool, school age, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Training: Successful completion of an accredited diagnostic ultrasound or cardiovascular ultrasound program. Cardiac and Vascular registry required or obtained within 1 year of hire, BLS required.
Work Orientation & Experience: One (1) year of vascular or cardiac experience and some experience in the other modality is required.

Visual and hearing abilities sufficient for observing and interpreting technical information provided by a variety of equipment displays graphic and written sources.
Steadily perform vascular and Cardiac ultrasound procedures in the presence of acutely ill patients, highly anxious family members, multiple physician requests and changing supervisory requirements necessary to serve the patient population
Respond to emergency situations appropriately

Make independent decisions consistent with current policies and procedures
Convey effective verbal and written information
Relate positively with and reassure patients

Compensation

Pay Range: $40.60/hr-$60.93/hr
